Making the most of your Spanish Language Studies Abroad

If you've chosen to take a Spanish language course abroad, chances are you'll want to make the most out of your stay. Here are some tips to help you do just that!

The best way to learn Spanish and make the most of being in a Hispanic country is to immerse yourself in the local culture and social scene. Mix with local Hispanic people as much as you can. This will encourage you to use Spanish in a natural context, allowing you to pick up new Spanish words and to consolidate what you learn in class.

If the Spanish school you've chosen provides the opportunity to live with a local family, make sure you take it. Staying with a host family will give you an authentic experience of everyday Latin life, as well as allowing you to practice the Spanish you learn during your course.

Another option is to do some volunteer work during your Spanish language program, or perhaps after it ends. This will broaden your Spanish vocabulary, as well as putting you in touch with important local issues and current affairs.

Most importantly, remember to relax and enjoy your Spanish language studies abroad. Try not to worry about making mistakes or sounding silly – everyone has to start somewhere and the more you practice your Spanish the faster you will learn. Good luck!
